Roofing Calculators
Nine focused calculators, each solving one task. Use the table to see what each tool needs as input and what it returns, then open the one that fits your job.
These tools share one calculation engine, so a pitch you enter in the pitch tool behaves exactly the same way in the hip, rafter and area tools. Pick a tool below. If you are unsure, start with the hip roof calculator for a complete estimate, or the roof area calculator when the shape is simple.
| Calculator | Inputs needed | Outputs produced |
|---|---|---|
| Hip Roof | Length, width, pitch, overhang | Area, squares, ridge, rafters, cap, bundles |
| Roof Area | Shape or measured faces, pitch | Net sloped area and roofing squares |
| Roof Pitch | X/12, degrees, percent or rise/run | All pitch units and slope multipliers |
| Shingle | Net area, waste, bundle coverage | Order area, squares and field bundles |
| Hip & Ridge Cap | Ridge and hip lengths, coverage | Linear feet and cap bundles |
| Common Rafter | Run or span, pitch, overhang | Rise, line length and tail |
| Hip Rafter | Common run or span, pitch | Common and hip length and angles |
| Jack Rafter | Width, pitch, overhang, spacing | Theoretical station length schedule |
| Pyramid Roof | Square side, pitch, overhang | Area, four hips, cap and faces |
When to choose each one: use the hip roof calculator for a rectangular equal-pitch roof with a ridge; the pyramid calculator when the base is square and the roof rises to a single apex; and the roof area calculator in measured-plane mode when you can measure the actual sloped faces of a more complex roof.
